Read moreThe Naval Architecture and design skills of Fairlie Yachts have been called into action to assist with the designs and drawings for a modern-day, new Thames Sailing Barge.
The barge, which has been commissioned by the Sea Change Sailing Trust is being designed to not only give children the chance to learn seamanship skills but also to move cargo up and down the Thames under sail. Fairlie’s Naval Architect and designer Paul Spooner, has been working with the Trust and the MCA to fulfil regulations for the vessels requirements for both passengers and cargo.
The new vessel will comprise a steel hull with the traditional rigging and decking of a sea-going Thames barge and basic facilities below.
