Read moreWithin a space of 20 years, between 1907 and 1917, 20 International Fifteen Metre Class yachts were built; 16 of them in Britain. The yachts were designed by the iconic designers of the day including Alfred Mylne, William Fife and Charles Nicholson.
Four of these incredible pre-First World War yachts still race in the Mediterranean today and in 2012 they formed their own class association to set their own rules and ensure fair, exciting and competitive racing. The 15 Metre Class now enjoy their own start at the major classic regattas and award their own trophy. The yachts race closely under a slightly modified version of the original International Rule, and racing takes place in real time without the need for a handicap system. This allows for highly competitive racing which is more gentlemanly, more fun, less aggressive and certainly less expensive that racing with a modern fleet.
Many of the original drawings of these magnificent racing machines are available to enable the construction of replica International 15m class yachts which can compete equally with the classics. Over the past 20 years Fairlie Yachts has restored 3 of the current 4 yachts racing today and has immense experience and knowledge of the construction of these beautiful craft. The class is actively seeking new owners to join and build the fleet; Fairlie’s unrivalled experience with these yachts would ensure a highly successful, top quality project delivered on time and on budget.
